Sleep disorders

Insomnia is a common health problem that causes people to have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. They can be both short-term and permanent problems and can occur for a variety of reasons.

There are different types of sleep disorders (e.g. insomnia, sleep apnea syndrome, narcolepsy and parasomnias). Each type has its own set of symptoms and causes, but many can be caused by stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, or other physical health issues.

The symptoms of insomnia can affect daily life, leading to fatigue, trouble concentrating, irritability, memory problems, and other health problems.

A diagnosis of sleep disorders is usually made based on a thorough history and physical exam. In addition, sleep monitoring, including polysomnography, may be done to assess sleep patterns and quality.

Effective therapy for insomnia may involve a combination of behavior modification, sleep hygiene measures, medication, and, if necessary, psychotherapy. It is important to determine the causes of sleep disorders in order to ensure effective treatment.
